Do you want to save money on furniture while getting the expert advice of an interior designer?

Simply put, we source and purchase furniture on your behalf at trade pricing. We then pass a portion of those discounts back to you. This offsets the cost of our fees to spend the time sourcing.

So you get to save money on furniture while getting our expertise along the way

We also access trade and wholesale agencies not available to the general public, providing you with a much wider range of furniture to select from. In some ways, it’s like having your own personal furniture shopper!

HERE’S HOW IT WORKS

Consultation

During our initial two hour consult, we’ll ask questions about your decorating style and create a vision for the look and feel. We’ll also take photos and measurements, and discuss your budget. Initial consultation is $495 (an additional travel fee applies outside Brisbane metro).

We provide you with a Scope and Fee proposal, outlining the work to be undertaken, items to be sourced, and associated Fees in developing the concepts. For smaller jobs and single rooms, we may be able to provide you with costings at the initial consultation.

Design process

We develop your Furnishing Plan. It includes a document outlining all furniture pieces, including soft furnishings such as rugs, artworks and ambient lighting). It includes images, sizes and prices. You can choose to furnish all at once or in stages to suit your timeline and budget. Digital mood boards and space plans, showing your furniture arrangement in the room, can also be requested.

Shopping, ordering & install

We then visit the shops and look at the furniture that we’ve recommended.

You then choose the pieces you’d like to go ahead with. We order and arrange deliveries on your behalf. We track deliveries for you and make sure everything arrives safely. We can take delivery for you for an extra cost, or alternatively you can take delivery yourself.

OR CHOOSE YOUR VERY OWN

“PERSONAL FURNITURE SHOPPER SERVICE”

HERE’S WHAT OUR CUSTOMERS SAY

Gary has designed a beautiful apartment home for me, that is wonderful to look at, but more importantly, has comfortable furniture, amazing artworks and refreshed and stylish lighting, which suits and matches my style perfectly.

Simon Garnett

From the outset Gary was willing to work collaboratively with me so that we could talk through ideas together. The end result was better (and less expensive) than I expected. Now that most things are in place we really love our new space. Gary's work and guidance has really changed our lives.

Robert and Rachel D’Alessio

We adore what Gary has created for us. It was a hassle-free experience for a premium quality outcome. We could never have achieved the results on our own and believe we achieved extraordinary value which has increased the value of our home.

Linda Ginger and Bruce Harper

I just didn’t have the skill to create what I needed but thankfully, Gary did. My job requires an acute eye for perfection and I just didn’t know how relax when I got home. But now, I feel transformed every time I walk in my door.

FAQs

Do I have to do an entire home or can I just work on specific rooms?

You can choose to work on one room through to a whole house. We also specialise in furnishing external areas, such as courtyards, decks and balconies. Sometimes clients ask me to put together a plan for large sections of a home, but with the intention of then furnishing the spaces in a staged approach. Having an overall plan helps guide them through this process within a specific vision and framework.

How do you buy furniture from an interior designer at cheaper prices?

Designers have access to trade agencies that aren’t available to the public. The model at Gary Hamer Interior Design is to pass on a portion of these discounts back to clients so that the service provides better value for money. As a guide, retail prices are between 30-60% times more expensive than trade prices.

What type of furniture do you source?

Anything from sofas, armchairs and tables through to soft furnishing items such as artworks, rugs and ambient lighting. I also find that clients don’t know how to access good artwork. This doesn’t have to be as costly as you think, as there are many agencies around that can provide high quality framed prints for as little as $150 – and it really makes a difference to the feel of a home.

How much does it cost for the service?

There’s a fee to source your furniture based on an estimated time allocated. This is outlined in your Fee Proposal so you know exactly what you pay. The savings you make on discounts offsets this fee, and in some cases can be more than the fee itself.

What are the advantages of engaging a designer to furnish my home?

There are many answers to this. Obviously, you should end up with a much better result than if you were to furnish your home by yourself. But in my experience, it’s helping clients avoid making costly mistakes. I often get engaged when clients’ have started purchasing furniture and then realise it’s not working – they then called me in because they don’t know how to move forward.

Do you work with different budgets?

I love helping anybody, from young couples in their first home to big families in larger properties! Clients often don’t know their budget, so I ask them questions such as “which shops do you like” or “what would you say is an appropriate cost for a sofa” to help guide me in furniture selection.

What tips would you give somebody before embarking on furniture purchasing decisions?

Do a space plan! This is simply a plan of the room/s with furniture sizes, placements and arrangements included. They’re important for creating the most optimal flow in a space (how you move around and use a space), as well as calculating sizes and shapes of pieces to ensure you maximise the perception of space – especially when you’re working with small spaces such as apartments. A well considered space plan can make a huge impact in how a furnished room looks, works and feels!

Can you help with custom furniture?

Absolutely. On many projects, I design furniture and joinery that is better suited to the space than shop-purchased pieces. For example, I frequently design joinery that sits into recessed wall areas, or bespoke entertainment units that float off the floor and have concealed lighting.

Are you an interior designer or an interior decorator, and what is the difference?

I’m both. I help people decorate their homes – furnishing, colour and décor. I also help people to renovate or refurbish their spaces. This includes kitchen and bathroom design, wall colours, flooring options, and helping them select materials, finishes and colours for their house.
